Project Overview

A restaurant had been operating successfully for several years. However, due to increasing demand and limited space within the restaurant premises, the owners decided to expand their operations by introducing an outdoor catering unit. After careful consideration, they opted for a shipping container conversion as a cost-effective and versatile solution. The owners conducted extensive research to find a reliable supplier for their shipping container conversion project. After evaluating various options, they selected Universal Containers for their excellent reputation, quality products, and expertise in container conversions.

The Challenge

The main challenge was creating a fully functional space, up to all necessary health regulations and codes for the preparation of food. Another challenge was staying within the limited budget of the restaurant, while also providing an aesthetically pleasing solution.

The Approach

The restaurant owners contacted Universal Containers to discuss their requirements and vision for the catering unit. Our experienced team of designers and engineers worked closely with the owners to understand their specific needs, including the desired layout, equipment, and aesthetic preferences. We presented several container options to the restaurant owners, considering factors such as size, condition, and budget. After careful consideration, a used 20-foot shipping container was chosen as the ideal base for this project.

The Solution

The shipping container was transformed into a fully functional catering and service area by installing countertops, a sink & wash area, full internal electrics, and a food preparation area. The exterior of the container was painted in the restaurant’s branding colour. Once the conversion was completed, we arranged for the delivery and installation of the catering unit at the restaurant’s designated outdoor space. Our experienced team ensured a seamless installation, including ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

The Result

The introduction of the shipping container catering unit proved to be a significant success for the restaurant. It allowed them to expand their services, cater to larger events, and attract new customers. The versatility of the container conversion also enabled the restaurant to relocate the unit to different locations, maximising its outreach and profitability.

Client Feedback

“Fantastic service – Andy Rushton was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The converted container has been invaluable in helping our restaurant expand, we have had three units to date, and looking at two more moving into 2024.”
